focus stacking

for a long time, i’ve wanted to learn how to focus stack, which is when you compile multiple macro images into one that is actually in focus. thanks to macro photography’s required shallow depth-of-field, this kind of imaging is often necessary. for some reason, i always thought i needed some fancy, expensive software that i was too lazy to torrent (and too broke to pay for) so i put off learning until i realized i could do this quite easily with the imaging program i already have. below are a few tests—i still need a lot of practice, i think, but i’m excited to show some preliminary results.

there’s also this one of the time my wife sliced off the tip of her thumb. it’s not for the faint of heart, so click here if you want to see it. there’s some blood.
